The Riordan Programs provide a pathway for underrepresented students to excel in business and leadership, and its MBA Fellows Program targets recent college graduates who are considering graduate education in business management. Fellows attend sessions at UCLA that include various activities and services, expanding their network and building their leadership skills and community service profile.

April Owens is the Associate Director of Programs for the Riordan Programs; she is passionate about helping people utilize their inner strengths and positive qualities to achieve their desired goals and ultimately thrive in life. Beginning her career as a program coordinator at the State University of New York, Albany, she supported and implemented programs that enhanced the college experience for underserved populations and improved retention rates. As a licensed professional counselor in the state of Texas, April has experience in case and program management and directly delivering counseling services to groups and individuals in both clinical research and crisis settings. April is a graduate of Spelman College with a B.A. in Psychology and the State University of New York, Albany with a M.S. in Counseling.
Weizhi Cheng, P.E. (Moderator)

Highly driven by performance, quality and service, Weizhi Cheng, PE has six years of technical and project management experience in the field of water resources engineering. He demonstrated strong analytical skills in over 40 projects and has the ability to manage time and resources effectively. Weizhi has a strong background in water system planning, water/wastewater system design, pump station design, hydraulic modeling, pipeline design, stormwater management, asset management, water quality analysis, engineering services during construction and regulatory permitting and compliance. He possess excellent written and interpersonal skills, supported by 5 peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations and working collaboratively on a wide range of projects. Weizhi has both BS and ME degrees in environmental engineering from the University of Florida. He currently works for the City of Burlingame as an Associate Civil Engineer. Prior to working for the City, he also worked for CDM Smith in Jacksonville, Florida and SRT Consultants in San Francisco, CA. He is a very active member of WEF and CWEA, currently serving as the SYP Vice Chair for Northern California.
